Huge cannabis factory found in an old empty bingo hall

Two Coventry men have been arrested after an old bingo hall and social club in Nuneaton was turned into a cannabis factory. The surprise find was found in the derelict Grand Bingo & Social Club on Camphill Road – along with a cache of dangerous weapons.

Police were called to reports of a burglary at the property, which closed in 2021 and was put up for auction. Officers responded to a 999 call at 4am on Tuesday (June 11) to a report that four men were trying to force their way inside.

The lock appears to have been broken on the front door of the building. But when police entered the building, they found a “cannabis crop”. A total of 112 plants were grown in two chambers.

There was also a tiny bed set up with a TV screen showing CCTV cameras. They also found a glass-style sword, a large hatchet, a tomahawk, several meat cleavers, a 10-inch “zombie knife,” a six-inch kitchen knife and three ranges.

Two men have been arrested, a 19-year-old and a 24-year-old, both from Coventry. They were taken into custody to be questioned on suspicion of burglary (non-residential) and armed.
