The ex-cop used the warrant card while suspended to get into the nightclub for free

A former police officer twice used a warrant card to gain access to a nightclub. The unnamed ex-constable was suspended from Leicestershire Police at the time so the warrant had been decommissioned.

The force said the former officer, who has since resigned, should have known this and was asked to return the warrant card to the force. Leicestershire Police said it did so.

However, last October he used another warrant card to enter a club in Hinckley, the force said. Because he introduced himself as a policeman, he got in for free.

On a second occasion, in November, the use of the warrant allowed him access after initially being denied entry due to the time of night. Following a misconduct hearing, Chief Constable Rob Nixon deemed the man’s behavior an “unwarranted and deliberate exploitation of the police office”.

His actions were also described as “primarily dishonest” and the fact that they were repeated was considered an “aggravating factor”. Had the officer still been in the force, he would have been dismissed without notice. He has now been placed on a banned list, meaning he cannot work in the profession again.

Mr Nixon said: “Integrity is a fundamental requirement for policing. The ex-officer deliberately posed as a serving police officer, even though he knew he was suspended, using a decommissioned warrant card. This was fundamentally dishonest and undermines public confidence in the police and our force.”
