273 mph hypercar becomes world’s fastest electric vehicle

A hypercar has become the world’s fastest electric vehicle after reaching 272.61 mph (438.73 kph). The Aspark OWL SP600 set the record at the Automotive Testing Papenburg (ATP) track in Germany on Saturday (June 8).

It took the record from the Rimac Nevera, which recorded a top speed of 258 mph (415 km/h) in November 2022. Masanori Yoshida, CEO of Osaka-based Aspark, says: “It’s been about 10 years since we started working at OWL. Hypercar.

“We watched the world’s fastest car with the fastest acceleration, then we tried and achieved world top speed records today with our new OWL SP600 hypercar. This technical capability inspires everyone involved to personal excellence and to challenge and grow in the future.”

Aspark has commissioned Italy’s Manifattura Automobili Torino (MAT) for the development and production of a hypercar capable of breaking the world electric vehicle top speed record.

Professional driver and Nurburgring 24 Hours winner Marc Basseng broke the record at his second attempt on Saturday. Aspark says it was measured using the Racelogic V-Box, a high-precision GPS-based measuring device provided by the ATP proving ground in Papenburg.

Aspark previously set the record for the fastest production electric car in May 2023, hitting 198 mph (318.65 km/h) with the £2.2 million Aspark Owl hypercar.
