Padstow’s award-winning Prawn on the Lawn is opening a new seafood bar

An award-winning Cornwall restaurant has opened a new seafood bar just in time for summer. The team behind Prawn On The Lawn and Barnaby’s in Padstow have opened Little Prawn, which offers a daily changing menu of fresh plates and cocktails.

It’s located in the old Barnaby’s building opposite Prawn on the Lawn on Duke Street and has had a complete makeover, which includes a bright new pink exterior. Little Prawn will be open throughout the summer and close in October.

The seafood bar’s current sampler menu boasts a variety of small plates, including monkfish and scallop crudo, wild red prawn crudo, seared tuna and Cornish som tam with coconut and dried prawns. They also offer Porthilly oysters, Padstow shellfish and a handful of snacks and sides, as well as frozen margaritas and chilled wines.

Katie and Rick Toogood opened Little Prawn’s sister restaurant, Prawn on the Lawn, in 2015. The restaurant changes its small plates menu daily (sometimes hourly), and local fishermen land fish right out the door. Before launching the restaurant, the couple ran a licensed fishmonger and restaurant in Islington, London.

It won Best Seafood Restaurant at the Trencherman’s Awards 2023 and Prawn on the Lawn has been featured in the Michelin Guide every year since opening. The Michelin Guide’s view said: “If you love seafood, then you’ll love this cozy little seafood bar where tasty tapas-style small plates are the order of the day.
