Street racer who drove dangerously in West Bromwich walks free from court but faces £1,700 court bill

Sikander Hussain, 36, of Titford Lane, Rowley Regis, admitted two breaches of the Black Country order during a street racing incident in May 2024.

Hussain was seen racing other speeding vehicles and driving dangerously at speeds of around 80mph while in both lanes of Kendrick Way, West Bromwich, at around 11.40pm on 11 May.

Following a sentence at Birmingham High Court on May 23, Hussain was sentenced to 37 days in prison, suspended for 12 months, and was also ordered to pay £1,700.30 costs.

Speaking about the sentence, Sandwell Council chief executive Alan Lunt said: “I am delighted to see further action being taken to tackle this very dangerous and anti-social behaviour.

“This is the fifth successful court case in the last year where street racers have been brought to justice for breaching the banning order in Kenrick Way.”

The sentencing also took into account aggravating features, which included Mr Hussain being disqualified from driving in April 2024 and driving without insurance.

Mr Hussain also previously received a warning letter from the police for being present twice in a car-cruising hotspot in Birmingham in June 2024.

The ruling comes after the High Court in February 2024 issued a full and final ban on street racing, also known as car cruising, covering the whole of Black Country.

The Ordinance prohibits any person who is a driver, rider or passenger in or on a motor vehicle from participating between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. in an assembly of two or more persons in the Black Country at which some of those present engage in motor vehicle racing motor. or stunts.

The ordinance also targets organizers or spectators, prohibiting people from promoting, organizing or advertising the gatherings.
