Carers Week 2024 – Putting carers on the map

Lambeth Council is marking Carers Week (10-16 June), a UK-wide awareness campaign to raise the visibility of carers. This includes raising awareness of the challenges carers face, which can affect their finances, employment, health and wellbeing. During Carers Week, it’s important to recognize the contribution made by carers in Lambeth, who look after friends and loved ones who might not otherwise be able to cope.

The theme for this year’s Carers Week is ‘putting carers on the map’. In Lambeth, we are putting carers on the map by committing to making carer visibility, recognition, identification and awareness one of the seven priorities for supporting carers in the new Lambeth Strategy for Carers 2024-29.

Support for caregivers in the district

Lambeth Council’s Carers Strategy outlines how we will work with our partners to support the 18,000 unpaid carers in our borough who support their family, friends or others in the community. The landmark strategy was published earlier this year and is being highlighted as part of Carers Week.

If you are a carer in Lambeth, get support from Carers Hub Lambeth. The local center supports unpaid carers aged five and over by providing 1-to-1 support, peer support groups, social and wellbeing activities and training.

Key priorities of the Carers Strategy

Lambeth’s strategy, co-produced with the Carers Collaborative Strategy Group and Carers’ Hub Lambeth, recognizes the challenges our unpaid carers face and are cared for, and that many people may be carers without realizing it. To help overcome these challenges, we have set out seven key priorities.

The priorities focus on our shared vision to ensure that unpaid carers receive the best possible support to continue caring for others and themselves and are:

  • Mental, physical and emotional well-being of carers
  • Integrated Carers Pathway and Support Offer
  • Equipped workforce
  • Visibility, recognition, identification and awareness of carers
  • Empowering caregivers
  • Caregiver equity
  • Help prevent financial hardship for carers

If you would like to keep up to date with the progress of the strategy, explore partnership working or get involved, contact Carers Hub Lambeth at [email protected].

Lambeth Carers Awards

Lambeth Council is calling for nominations for their new Carers Awards. The awards recognize the significant contributions made by carers and the professionals and organizations that support them.

A carer is anyone who provides unpaid assistance to a friend or loved one because of an illness, disability, mental health problem or addiction. Caregiving can be rewarding, but it can also have a significant impact on caregivers’ lives. Many people may even be caregivers without realizing it.

Submit an award nomination

To nominate, please complete the Lambeth Carers Awards 2024 Nomination Form.

Please ensure that you have obtained consent from the person you are nominating. We will use the details you have provided to contact them about your nomination. The deadline for submitting nominations is 7 July 2024.
