Bristol Rovers see a vital bleeding kit installed at The Mem by the RRT and Avon and Somerset Police

A new bleeding kit has been installed at Memorial Stadium following a donation from the charity Rapid Relief Team (RRT) in partnership with Avon and Somerset Police, which could prove to be a life-saving addition to the community.

Bleeding kits are special trauma kits that provide bystanders with the necessary products they need to stop life-threatening bleeding until paramedics arrive, something that first aid kits do not. The latter are used to treat minor injuries such as a scratch, where a bleeding kit may be used after life-threatening incidents such as motor vehicle accidents or stab wounds.

Each bleed kit includes two trauma dressings, two pairs of gloves, two hemostatic dressings, othermal blanket, iinstructions, sscissors, a whistle and a tourniquet

As many as three stabbings took place in Bristol just last weekend, with such incidents becoming worryingly common in the city. The deaths of teenagers Max Dixon, Mason Rist and Darrian Williams earlier this year led to an outpouring of grief in Bristol and the continued installation of such kits is vital.

Adam Tutton, CEO of Bristol Rovers Community Trust, emphasized the importance of installing these wear kits within the community. “Having blood kits available in our community is crucial. These are not just for knife wounds, but can be used in any situation where there is catastrophic bleeding. This initiative by RRT and Avon & Somerset Police is a vital step in ensuring our community is prepared to deal with such emergencies effectively.”

Roland Coldrick, a local Rapid Relief Team (RRT) volunteer, said: “RRT has donated 10 of these blood kits to various communities in the Bristol area and we are delighted to have one of them installed in such a prominent location in Bristol Rovers FC. We are very pleased to play our part in supporting Heartsafe, working alongside Avon & Somerset Police to help save lives and raise awareness of this great initiative.”

Clive Setter from HeartSafe said: “Since we launched the first community blood kit in Bristol city center last September, we have had an overwhelmingly positive response and calls from other members of our community wanting to support the launch. We want to thank you. Bristol Rovers for their latest efforts to pave the way in our communities and ensure that more and more of our people have access to this provision should they, or others, find themselves in desperate need of healthcare. “
