The lifeguards dive fully clothed after the bodyboarder disappears

Lifeguards dived into the sea fully clothed when a bodyboarder went missing. The alarm was raised at Mawgan Porth just as the RNLI crew arrived for the day.

RNLI lifeguards arrived at the beach at 9.50am and were immediately notified by members of the public that a female bodyboarder was in danger.




Lifeguards Theresa Morokutti and Harry Barea had just arrived at the beach near Newquay at 9.50am when they were immediately alerted by members of the public that a female bodyboarder was in danger. Both immediately entered the water fully clothed due to the speed of the rescue call.

The woman had been caught in the current generated by the river meeting the sea and had drifted towards the corner of the promontory out of sight. They each paddled over 300 meters on rescue boards and successfully recovered the victim and brought him safely back to shore.

RNLI Chief Lifeguard Supervisor for Newquay Lewis Timson said: “Theresa and Harry did a great job rescuing a female bodyboarder who was dragged into the river path, which is a prominent feature on the left side of Mawgan Porth beach and can create a significant current flowing to the sea.

“She was extremely grateful for their help. The strength of the current was such that she would have had great difficulty reaching the shore on her own.
