Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna is a ‘huge fan’ of the £11m player Leeds United are desperate to sign

Having pipped Leeds United to second place, Ipswich Town could now look to move closer to one of the Whites’ top transfer targets this summer.

Along with Leicester City and Southampton, both Leeds and Ipswich have been fighting tooth and nail all season for a place in the top two.

In the end, Leeds were the only of the four teams not to be promoted to the Premier League and now have to face the reality of remaining a Championship club for the second consecutive season.

It has already been acknowledged by the Leeds hierarchy that some key players will need to be sold this summer, although the club’s financial position is nowhere near as bad as some would suggest.

That said, it won’t be a window in which Leeds will splash endless amounts of cash. They spent just £30m last summer and it would be a surprise if they top that this time around.

Tottenham journalist Alasdair Gold shares a worrying update on Joe Rodon

With less than 48 hours until the window opens, Leeds have been linked with a number of players in the weeks following their play-off final defeat.

Chelsea’s Alfie Gilchrist is one Leeds are keen to sign on loan, while Bobby De Cordova-Reid has also been linked. A move for Excelsior winger Couhaib Driouech is also said to be “one to watch”.

But there is no doubt that at this stage of the window, Leeds’ top priority is bringing Joe Rodon back to the club after such a successful loan spell at Tottenham last season.

Rodon sparked a one-year contract extension at Spurs last week, but Leeds remain determined to re-sign him, even with Premier League interest.

However, according to Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold, one of the teams they could face competition from is Ipswich. If Rodon were to move there, it would be a bitter pill to swallow after last season.

Speaking on the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham YouTube channel, Gold gave the following update: “Joe Rodon is leaving this summer, we’re waiting to see where he goes. I’m intrigued to see if he ends up at someone like Ipswich because I know Kieran McKenna is a big fan of his. I wonder if that will be an option for him.”

Fenerbahce have also been touted as a potential destination for Rodon

Tottenham are not the only Premier League sides and Leeds showing interest in Rodon, with Turkish side Fenerbahce also touted as a potential destination.

That’s because the man who gave Rodon his first opportunity at Spurs, Jose Mourinho, following an £11million arrival, has just landed the manager’s job there.

Mourinho spoke often about Rodon during their time together at Spurs, so it would not be a surprise if he wanted to link up again after the season the Welshman enjoyed at Leeds.

One thing is for sure, Leeds will have to work seriously hard if they are to prize Rodon back to Elland Road this summer.
