Tribute to ‘brightest soul who was loved by all’ killed in Darnall’s attack

A 23-year-old man killed in a serious attack in Sheffield has been named locally as people across the city pay tribute.

The man has been named locally as Hamza Mohammed. Hamza suffered a serious head injury in what police say was a targeted attack in the city’s Darnall area. He died a few days later from his injuries.




South Yorkshire Police were called by Yorkshire Ambulance Service at around 4.36pm on Saturday 8 June to reports of a serious assault on Staniforth Road. On arrival, Hamza was found with a serious head injury. He was rushed to hospital but died on Monday night (June 10).

Yesterday, police confirmed that an investigation into the murder is now underway. A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery in connection with his death. He remains in police custody at this time.

Tributes for Hamza poured in on social media after the South Yorkshire Janaza Announcement page shared a photo of the young man with the following caption: “It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce that Hamza Mohammed, son of Sagheer Mohammed, has left this temporary world.”
