A Plymouth man has been jailed for eighteen months for sexually assaulting a woman.

Steven John William Jarrold, 39, of Manston Close in Plymouth, was sentenced at Plymouth Crown Court on Tuesday, June 11, after pleading guilty to sexual assault without penetration.

He will also have to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years.

The court heard how Jarrold and the victim had been drinking at the same pub, with the victim describing herself as extremely drunk.

Later that night, Jarrold sexually assaulted the victim. Jarrold apologized and left the stage. He continued to text the victim until his arrest.

In the interview, Jarrold admitted to touching the victim.

Detective Constable Danielle Pavoni said following sentencing: “I would like to congratulate the victim for her bravery and resilience throughout the investigation and thank her for coming forward to Devon and Cornwall Police to report this crime.

“Nothing will take away the trauma he experienced. It is hoped that this outcome will empower other victims of sexual assault to come forward and report incidents to the police, knowing that they will be believed and fully supported.”
