Leicester City’s pursuit of Graham Potter could be boosted by the Manchester United manager’s decision

Graham Potter has reportedly become a more viable managerial target for Leicester City after Manchester United opted to stick with Erik ten Hag.

Potter has long been well-regarded behind the scenes at City and tops the list of potential successors to Enzo Maresca, with suggestions on Wednesday morning that talks are ongoing between the club and the manager. However, it has previously been reported that the former Brighton and Chelsea boss is holding out for a bigger job.

Now, the Manchester United concert is no longer taking place. Potter was named alongside Mauricio Pochettino and Roberto De Zerbi as a potential candidate to replace the Ten Hag, but Old Trafford decision-makers decided to stick with the Dutchman following an internal review.

The England job could still become available after the Euros, and it’s another role Potter is said to relish. The tournament doesn’t finish until mid-July and City are unlikely to wait that long for a response.

Potter was first considered by City as part of a succession plan when Brendan Rodgers was in charge and there were rumors he could be poached by one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs. Then, when Rodgers and Potter were sacked on the same day in April 2023, City quickly popped the question, only for Potter to tell him he wanted out.

Potter has been out of work ever since. Last month, he was said to have turned down the vacant job at Dutch giants Ajax.
