Liverpool dealt another personnel blow as Arne Slot’s key ally unlikely to join – Liverpool FC

Feyenoord manager Etienne Reijnen is not expected to join Liverpool this summer amid work permit issues.

Arne Slot hoped to bring the 37-year-old to Anfield alongside fellow assistant Sipke Hulshoff following their success together at De Kuip.

However, reports emerged last week suggesting that Reijnen’s move could be blocked by his lack of a UK work permit.

And the Dutchman has now confirmed privately that he expects to stay at Feyenoord.

The news comes as a blow to Slot, who has yet to fill several vacancies on his backroom staff.

Liverpool still need a new goalkeeping coach after the departures of John Achterberg and Jack Robinson.

They have also recently advertised for a set piece coach and will likely need an alternative to analyst and technical advisor Reijnen.

As such, the club’s decision-makers have plenty of work to do before pre-season kicks off on July 1.

The goalkeeping coach doubts the move

Feyenoord goalkeeping coach Jyri Nieminen has played down the likelihood that he too will join Slot at Liverpool this summer.

As previously reported by This is AnfieldNieminen was considering joining Claudio Taffarel to coach the club’s goalkeepers in the coming period.

However, the 36-year-old has now ruled out that possibility, insisting he is more likely to stay at current club Feyenoord.

Speaking to the Finnish magazine, Apuhe said: “The Liverpool thing was in place and of course I was thinking about it.

“With a very high probability, I will continue with Feyenoord next season as well. The situation will change if it changes.”
