Danny Rohl opens up about Chansiri and reveals the ‘dream’ they share at Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has revealed the ‘dream’ he and owner Dejphon Chansiri share.

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri recently won plaudits for tying down manager Danny Rohl to a new three-year deal.

Rohl arrived at Sheffield Wednesday in October 2023 and eventually guided the Owls to 20th place in the Championship.

The German’s previous contract was set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 campaign. But Chansiri immediately opened talks with Rohl after the end of the 2023/24 campaign, tying Rohl down to a three-year deal.

Sheffield Wednesday now look set to make moves in the transfer market ahead of the window officially opening on June 14.

The Owls are targeting free agent duo Ben Hamer and Max Lowe and have reportedly agreed to sign Yan Valery from Angers.

In a recent interview, Rohl discussed Chansiri and the vision they share for the club.

Danny Rohl reveals the ‘dream’ he and Dejphon Chansiri share at Sheffield Wednesday

Rohl recently did an interview with The Training Ground Guru where he was asked about Chansiri.

Rohl was asked if Chansiri was fully on board with the longer-term project at Sheffield Wednesday, of which there hasn’t really been one for a number of years.

Rohl replied, “I hope so. I think that was the reason why he accepted my offer to extend my contract.

“I think we both dream of the Premier League and if we make good steps forward then there is a chance of course.”

After seeing how well Sheffield Wednesday performed under Rohl last season, it’s easy to get carried away when making predictions for next season.

The form table for the last 25 games of the campaign has Sheffield Wednesday in 8th place, so there is reason to believe the Owls can avoid relegation next season.

And if Rohl can sign the players he wants this summer, then there is nothing to suggest why Sheffield Wednesday could not even challenge for the top six next round.

But expectations must be managed at Hillsborough. There is plenty of work to be done in the summer transfer window and the last Championship campaign showed us that there is a real level of quality in the second tier.

Any team can really beat any other team. For Chansiri and Rohl, a consistent mid-table finish would mark a significant improvement on last season.

Then in later years, after several transfer windows where they have built a strong first-team squad, promotion to the Premier League, and then the chance to stay there, can become very realistic.
