Cornwall braces for heavy rain and 50mph winds as Met Office predicts coastal storms

Cornwall is set for a deluge of rain and gales with gusts in excess of 50mph today. The gloomy weather forecast does not look set to improve over the next 10 days, with the Met Office predicting plenty of showers due to a low pressure system moving in from the Atlantic and the jet stream positioning to the south of the country.

Despite a slight rise in temperatures today, it will still feel chilly for this time of year as showers and strong winds sweep across the country after temperatures could have dipped into the single digits overnight. Met Office forecaster Clare Nasir warned of potential storms in coastal areas and difficult driving conditions due to heavy rain in some regions, the Mirror reports.

“Rain is spreading across the country with some stronger winds. The ridge we saw on Wednesday tends to disappear to the east as this rain arrives from the west,” she explained. She added that the south-west and coastal areas in particular were set for severe weather over the weekend.
