Alisson’s heroics save Brazil as Liverpool man sends a reminder

Brazil’s men’s national team were pushed to the brink in Wednesday’s friendly against the United States but avoided a second back-to-back defeat thanks to Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson’s heroics.

Alisson made six saves as Brazil held on for a 1-1 draw with the USA at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida. The 31-year-old made several key stops in the second half as Brazil extended their unbeaten run to four matches.

Yunus Musah’s fourth-minute rocket looked destined to go in after hitting the crossbar, but the rebound stayed wide after deflecting in behind Alisson.

The veteran goalkeeper later denied Christian Pulisic in the first half, diving low to deny the former Chelsea man’s effort. However, Alisson would later watch as Pulisic slipped a 26th-minute free kick past the Brazil wall and into the bottom corner for a 1-1 equaliser.

With both teams pressing for a winning goal after the break, Alisson was kept busy between the posts. He denied Pulisic for a second time after the hour mark before also standing to deny substitute Brenden Aaronson a tally with seven minutes to play.

Despite outscoring the United States 25-12, Brazil couldn’t find a way past Matt Turner, settling for a draw in their final pre-Copa America friendly.
