Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has given his verdict on the club’s decision to continue with Erik Ten Hag at the helm.

Multiple reports have confirmed that Manchester United’s protracted end-of-season review, which has lasted more than two weeks and seen other managers sought out for the role, has finally come to an end.

The Old Trafford side have not only decided to stick with Erik Ten Hag, but have also started negotiations to extend the Dutchman’s contract.

Most pundits and football analysts have publicly called Ten Hag unfit to continue as Manchester United manager, but Paul Scholes was not one of them.

Reacting to the news, Scholes wrote on his Instagram page: “Good to wake up to this news (Ten Hag staying) although I think Far Palace have felt the end.”

Then looking ahead to next season, he added: “Major improvements are needed, but at least we have a bit of continuity and we don’t have to wait for a new regime to settle in. The fans have given him and the players incredible support and they deserve better. next season.”

His latest reaction echoes his thoughts after United’s 3-1 defeat against Manchester City in March. Even then, he believed the club’s new hierarchy would decide not to continue with Ten Hag – a move he didn’t think was right.

When asked if he thought the Ten Hag would still be in charge next season, Scholes opined (via The mirror): “I think they (INEOS) have already decided. I don’t think he will be there next season. Not.

“From the interviews I’ve heard with Sir Jim, I thought there was a bit of negativity towards the club over the last 10 or 11 years and especially the last two years. I don’t think he’s happy with what’s going on. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are now looking for a new manager. I’m not saying it’s the right decision.”
