“It’s definitely creating a buzz.” Student launches new business funded by Wakefield School

It’s a passion that started all the way back home in Jamaica for student Javon Chin. Chin is now the creator behind his business Kultrin, building unique computers from the ground up.

“The first assumption people had was that it was a printer. When I started building it, the first thing that came to my mind was aesthetics. I wanted it to be aesthetically pleasing. I wanted it to look presentable because we were on a low budget,” Chin said.

The Academy for Scholarship and Entrepreneurship’s (ASE) Boss Up program has done just that. Their goal is to educate students about financial literacy, and at the end of the course, if the student’s presentation passes the test, they receive $500 in funding to grow their business.

“In my home country, I haven’t been able to get as much exposure as I have in America. So I would like to go back to my home country and show them and give them all the experience that I missed.” Chin said.

“A mild-mannered scholar, he works very hard, very introspective … he internalizes a lot of things and thinks and makes decisions based on that thought process,” said ASE Director Zenobia White-DaCruz.
