Dawn Butler parodies ’21 Seconds’ in ‘brilliant’ campaign video

Dawn Butler, Labour’s candidate for Brent East (formerly Brent Central before the boundary change), has made some pretty bold moves in the past – from being ordered out of the Commons for calling Boris Johnson a “liar” to argued a white house. secretary wouldn’t have been able to say the things Suella Braverman said during the post — and now she’s putting her own spin on a classic garage track while on the campaign trail.

Butler’s love of music is also well documented, having organized Jamaican parties which proved popular at the Labor Party conference, and in 2021 he appeared in an episode of the Channel 4 show. The Big Narstie Show and gave a freestyle rap on the spot.

“London girl, for Brent MP / Now I’m here with Lily C (Collins) / My parties are sick, I’m just honest / If you don’t want to come, you’re a liar like Boris,” she said.

While she was kicked out of the Commons for a similar comment in 2021, the whole Partygate scandal led to Johnson being found by a parliamentary committee to have misled MPs about Downing Street parties while they were strict coronavirus measures in force.

Two years later, Butler asked for her temporary expulsion file to be updated to state that her remarks about the former prime minister were “factually correct”.

Under parliamentary rules, MPs cannot call another member a “liar” – they can only claim that an individual has “misled” the House.

“They tell a lie, sit down, have a goofy grin on their face, then walk out and never come back to correct the record. And this is a problem for our democracy. And this House must be able to call truth to power,” she said last year.

Now, as he stands for re-election on July 4, 2021 has followed Big Narstie Show raps with her own tower on So Solid Crew’s 2001 track “21 Seconds”.

She raps, “We’ve got 21 days to go / We’ve got 21 more days / If you like it let me know / let me out of the shadows / We’ve got 21 days before he’s gone.

“So Rishi on D-Day / Where did he go? / So you don’t let a liar run the show.

“21 days to say who you like / 21 days to have your say / The Tories won’t like me anyway / But I won’t hesitate.

“Because the Labor Party is here to stay / We’re going to the top / The Tories / Their time is up / Because the Tories / They’re too corrupt.

“Vote for Dawn Butler / On the Fourth of July / For Brent East.”

The video also features Linda Riley, founder of Lesbian Visibility Week and LGBT+ campaigner.

And then, just to cover himself, Butler clarifies, “OK, It would be corrupt – they can’t afford to be sued.”

After the video was shared on social media on Thursday morning, social media users praised the campaign’s “brilliant” and “iconic” video:
