Sheffield Wednesday have now “awarded a transfer fee” to sign a “fantastic” gem.

Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly ‘agreed a transfer fee’ as they look set to complete their first signing of the summer.

Sheffield Wednesday are aiming to complete their first transfer of the summer early, having already been linked with a number of players over the past month.

The transfer window doesn’t open until tomorrow, but the club are already set to sign Ben Hamer when his contract at Watford expires at the end of the month.

They are also in the “advanced stages” of signing Sheffield United defender Max Lowe, who will also become a free agent in a few weeks.

Yan Valery could join Sheffield Wednesday by next week

However, they now look ready to cash in, with The Star journalist Alex Miller now reporting that they have “awarded a transfer fee” for Yan Valery.

He wrote on X: “Understand that Sheffield Wednesday have agreed a transfer fee with Angers for Yan Valery. Personal terms were also agreed upon. The 25-year-old Tunisian international was wanted by Standard Liege and Montpellier. It could be completed next week.”

It was reported last week that Yan Valery had already agreed personal terms over a move to Hillsborough, with the club hopeful of completing his signature after he was previously heard admitting he would like to return to England.

The former Southampton full-back now looks set to get his wish, looking to beat off competition from Standard Liege and Montpellier on Wednesday.

The Star reported that Danny Rohl was said to have been a “big driver” in Valery’s decision to move to Yorkshire after working together at Southampton.

It is unclear how much the Owls will pay to bring the 25-year-old to Hillsborough, although they have two years left on his contract.

Transfermarkt claims that Valery’s market value is around £1.7m, suggesting that Dejphon Chansiri have kept their promise to provide more funds.

Danny Rohl is about to get his man

Bringing in Yan Valery looks like a very smart signing, having previously impressed during his time in the Premier League.

The French ‘fantasy”s spell on the south coast eventually came to an end, but he has grown a lot since then and now has a promotion under his belt.

Valery is also capable of playing in central defense and as a right-sided midfielder, so he will immediately add strength and versatility to his squad.

It could force Pol Valentin to settle for a spot on the bench, but he could even benefit from some competition for his number one spot.
