Dion Rankine today completed a permanent move to Wigan Athletic.








The Cobham graduate, who joined us from Cambridge United aged 14 in 2016, is leaving Chelsea to start a new chapter in his career after agreeing a permanent move to the League One club.

The versatile full-back or full-back impressed on his first loan in the Football League last season, featuring regularly for Exeter City in League One, and now continues his footballing journey at the same level with Latics.

Chelsea and Wigan have had recent history, with captain Reece James and former defender Dujon Sterling enjoying successful loan spells with the Lancashire club.

Rankine played for the first team in a mid-season friendly against Aston Villa in December 2022, coming on as a substitute in Abu Dhabi when the season paused for the World Cup in Qatar.
