Man killed in east Birmingham hit-and-run

An investigation is underway after a pedestrian was killed in a suspected hit-and-run in east Birmingham.

Officers from the East Precinct and Birmingham Fire and Rescue were dispatched at 4:49 a.m. Thursday to a report of a person in the 8300 block of First Avenue North.

An adult male was found dead at the scene.

Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said investigators believe the victim was struck by a vehicle that left the scene. It was not immediately clear when he had been hit.

The investigation is in its early stages.
