Leeds’ Archie Gray makes future decision after talks with Reds

Reported Liverpool transfer target Archie Gray will FRUSTRATE any potential suitors for his signature this summer by staying at Leeds United for at least another season.

There was speculation that the Championship side would listen to offers for several of their top stars given their precarious financial position and having missed out on promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The Reds have been linked with Gray along with EFL Championship Player of the Year Crysencio Summerville, with the Dutch striker available for around £35m.

Gray could cost a lot more with his contract running until 2028 and, at 18, is one of the hottest prospects in the English game.

He played 52 games in all competitions for the Whites last season, culminating in the Championship play-off heartbreak against Southampton at Wembley.

The local prospect has thrived under Daniel Farke as a midfielder, but has also been named on the right for considerable stretches of the campaign.

Archie Gray wants to stay at Leeds

With speculation mounting that he could make way this summer, it has now been revealed that Gray and his advisers intend to stay at his boyhood club despite making contact with Liverpool ahead of the transfer window.

“All the Grays are very much in their thinking and very happy to stay, even if it’s another season in the Championship,” transfer journalist Ben Jacobs told the Just Joe Football Show.

“He came through the under-21s and ultimately a breakthrough season doesn’t mean you have to jump.

“I’m not sure many of the clubs linked to Gray can give him the game time needed for his development.

“Look at Liverpool, who are very close to the Gray family and I really know that the player, the player’s family and those around him respect the people at Liverpool who have been in touch, especially chief scout Barry Hunter.

“In the Gray family’s view, the best place for him is Leeds United and so it will take something quite special, or financially urgent from Leeds’ perspective, to change that.”
