Boy, 13, arrested after attempted ‘knife’ robbery of boy in Beckenham

A 13-year-old boy has been arrested after another child was allegedly threatened during an attempted robbery near the Beckenham War Memorial.

On June 10, a 14-year-old boy was approached by another boy at around 4.45pm on Croydon Road.

It was indicated that the boy had a knife.

The victim was able to run away and was not seriously injured.

A 13-year-old boy was later arrested by police on suspicion of attempted robbery and has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

The investigation is ongoing and officers are assessing CCTV footage.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at approximately 4.45pm on Monday 10 June to an incident on Croydon Road, Beckenham.

“It was reported that a 14-year-old boy was approached by another man near the Beckenham War Memorial who attempted to rob him and implied he was in possession of a knife.

“The boy managed to get away – he was not seriously injured.

“A 13-year-old boy was later arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery; he was released on bail pending further enquiries.

“Enquiries into the circumstances, which include the review of CCTV footage, are ongoing.

“Anyone with information that could help police is asked to call 101 or ‘X’ @MetCC and quote CAD5207/10Jun.
