Royal Enfield Meteor – When will it come? » EngineOctane

Royal Enfield has registered the Meteor name in Europe. This tells us that the company might bring back the bike that was previously sold. Also, the Royal Enfield Meteor Minor was then at the top of the Royal Enfield range. This led us to 3 main questions regarding Royal Enfield’s plans. Read on to find out why the name rings so many bells?

What was the Royal Enfield Meteor Minor?

The Royal Enfield Meteor Minor was a two-cylinder engine. It was an engine of almost 700 cc. The Royal Enfield Meteor Minor was the framework concept for the Royal Enfield Continental GT and the Royal Enfield Interceptor. Now with the registration of the name for a bike and clothing, there is a chance that the bike will make a comeback. Now with the Royal Enfield Continental GT and the Royal Enfield Interceptor, the range misses out on the bobber styling of the bike. In 2018, Royal Enfield introduced the HX bobber concept. The older meteor was somewhat similar to the bullet. Arguably it was a larger cc engine version of the bullet. The difference between the classic and the bullet will be something that can be said as the difference between the Meteor and the Interceptor 650.

What will the Royal Enfield Meteor be?

With the new 628 parallel-twin engine in hand, we expect things to go smoothly for Meteor development. To turn it into a bobber they will have to take the same frame as the Interceptor and lower it and increase the rake angle. Also, a single seat setup will give it the look of a bobber. The bike will have dual exhaust like the old meteor, but they won’t be overpowered like the Continental GT. Instead, we expect the Meteor to have tapered tailpipes that end where the rear wheel begins.

This styling will take cues from the Royal Enfield HX. The HX platform is built from a Vtwin engine. The engine bay will have to be reduced and the 650’s compact engine will be made to fit perfectly. The bike will be a Jawa Perak price approach. With the surprising price of the 650 twins, we can expect Royal Enfield to localize the parts to reduce the cost of the bike.

Will this replace the Bullet 500?

Now, if the bike looks like the Meteor Minor, then it immediately looks like the bullet. It will be the perfect replacement for the discontinued Bullet 500. The retro design of a decently powerful engine makes more sense than getting a BS6 engine for the old engine of the Bullet 500. Where the company will cut corners will be the tires and other hardware of the bike. Besides this, the wheels will be alloys with regular spoked wheels like the Classic 350. This bike will be like a mix of Bullet 350 for design and Interceptor 650 for engine and frame.

The bike is expected around the end of the year. Because the name registration is done in Europe. As Royal Enfield looks to expand its global range, there is a shift in expectations for the bobber than a bullet bike. We will have to wait for the company to reveal more information or any spy shots to be confirmed about the product. If you are planning to buy a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 but are confused whether you should go for something relatively economical like the KTM 390, then this video is for you.
