The former Liverpool star has lined up for the Borussia Dortmund job after Edin Terzic quit

A former Liverpool player could be in line to be named Borussia Dortmund’s new manager following the surprise resignation of Edin Terzic.

Dortmund confirmed Terzic had left the club on Thursday, just over a week after leading the Bundesliga side into the Champions League final against Real Madrid. Los Blancos won 2-0 at Wembley to deny their opponents a second European crown after winning the first competition in 1997.

Terzic has been in charge of Dortmund since 2021, having initially been appointed as interim coach. He won the DFB-Pokal in the same season but has gone trophyless since and led the club to a disappointing fifth place in the 2023/24 campaign.

“After the Wembley game, I asked for a meeting with the club’s management team because after 10 years at BVB – including five on the coaching staff and two and a half as head coach – I feel that the new era of the club should start with a new man on the touchline,” Terzic said in a club statement.

“Everyone close to me knows that this has been a very difficult decision for me over the past few weeks, but after extensive discussions my fundamental feeling has not changed.”

The search for Terzic’s replacement begins, and a familiar name to Liverpool fans could well be in the frame. Sport Bild report that Nuri Sahin could be in line to step into the Dortmund hot seat.
