OHL board approves Steelheads move from Mississauga to Brampton

TORONTO — The Ontario Hockey League Board of Directors has approved the relocation of the Mississauga Steelheads to Brampton, Ont.

The league said in a statement that the team will retain the “Steelheads” name and play out of the CAA Center beginning in the 2024-25 season.

The team is not moving far. Its previous home, the Paramount Fine Foods Center in Mississauga, is about seven kilometers away from the CAA Centre.

Brampton has another chance to host an OHL team after the Battalion relocated to North Bay, Ont., following the 2012-13 season.

The Battalion struggled to draw and averaged 2,191 fans per game in its final season in southern Ontario.

Mississauga, Ontario’s third-largest city by population, will be without an OHL team for the first time since 1998.
