The Coventry woman posed as a cleaner but police found something malicious on her phone

A ‘Shameless’ Coventry woman posed as a cleaner to steal from people’s homes. Monalisa Ion even used large sacks to take her loot from properties.

Police say the thief from Foleshill stole £90,000 worth of jewellery, including a diamond engagement ring and several luxury watches, from properties in Surrey. She tricked her way into houses, acting as a cleaner.

But her efforts to make a very clean getaway began to unravel when police were called to a burglary at a house in Farnham on January 5 this year. An engagement ring and a diamond necklace had been stolen.

At the end of January, a second burglary was reported in Farnham and police jumped on the fact that both properties had been cleaned out by someone new – the 44-year-old. Officers followed her to her home in Foleshill Road in Coventry and arrested her.

They checked her phone and found photos of the stolen jewelry. The police also found the pawn shop’s receipts from when she had sold the stolen items.

On Monday, June 10, Ion was sentenced to three years in prison at Guildford Crown Court after pleading guilty to six counts of theft. PC Cummins from Guildford Proactive Local Unit said: “Homeowners trusted Monalisa to be in their homes unsupervised and this high degree of trust has been broken.
