Leeds United midfielder Lewis Bate is set to leave the club on a free in the summer as his contract nears expiry.

Daniel Farke has plenty in store for the summer, regardless of which division the club end up in next season.

The fringe players who have been loaned out have uncertain futures with the club, but there is one who seems to be heading for the door already.

Lewis Bate will leave Leeds United for free this summer

Lewis Bate went on loan to League Two promotion hopefuls MK Dons in the January window after being out in the cold for the first half of the season at Leeds.

With Bate’s contract set to expire at the end of this season, YEP have said the young midfielder will leave Elland Road.

It comes amid MK Dons’ uphill battle to secure a place at Wembley, going 3-0 down to their play-off semi-final first leg against Crawley Town despite finishing fourth in the table playoff spots.

Farke, the latest manager to fail Bate in development

Bate was signed by Leeds in the summer of 2021 as a youth player from Chelsea for a fee of £1.5m, arriving from Cobham with a solid reputation behind him.

This supposed talent was on display right from the start for the U21s while Marcelo Bielsa was at the club, but the midfielder’s only opportunities in the 21/22 season came in difficult circumstances as Leeds’ season faltered under Bielsa and then Jesse Marsch , thrown into play. mixture of Premier League football when he obviously needed a loan that would benefit his style of play.

Bielsa’s lack of depth in the squad, whether it was his fault or Victor Orta’s, meant Bate didn’t go out on loan and instead learned he wasn’t ready for top-flight football, ironically his last appearance . the season came as a start against his former club Chelsea, a 3–0 thrashing by the Blues.

Marsch offered him the chance to go to Oxford United, where he was solid in League One but not totally outstanding.

However, returning to Thorp Arch after relegation, Farke had him in the squad for the pre-season game against Manchester United, where he was superb in the second half, amongst several other youngsters.

Competitive opportunities didn’t come and once again Bate was held out on loan for the first half of the season before heading to MK Dons in January, now ready to leave Leeds for nothing rather than be treated to more a lot of attention to produce a valuable asset at the club.

Although it’s hard to see how three managers can be wrong about the level of a player in the game – the fact that Bate wasn’t at Premier League or Championship level where we are – the fact that we get nothing for his departure. it’s such a waste of potential.
