Loved ones have paid tribute to a woman found dead in a Leicester home, describing her as the “backbone” of her family.

The body of Tarnjeet Riaz was discovered on Tarbat Road on Monday.

In a statement, the family said Ms Riaz, 44, was “bubbly, caring and a funny character who radiated nothing but happiness”.

Raj Sidpara, 50, of Tarbat Road, Leicester, was charged with her murder and remanded in custody.

He is due to appear at Leicester Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Ms Riaz, who was from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire and also known as the Chagger girl, “adored and looked after” her mother, younger sister and brother, her family said.

In a statement released on behalf of the police, Ms Riaz’s family added: “She took on the responsibility of a father to her siblings and was the backbone of the family.

“He was a bubbly, caring and funny character who radiated nothing but happiness. He knew what to say and do. She wasn’t just a sister or a daughter, she was our best friend.

“A best friend who is no longer with us. It’s a cruel world we live in. Tarnjeet will be remembered by many and we are grateful that she touched all of our lives.

“Now we can only cherish the memories we have of our Tarnjeet. We will all miss her dearly and love her always, RIP our angel.”
