Brawl involving 30 people and ‘armed youths’ part of violence affecting Enfield, police say

A dispersal order covers parts of Enfield after members of the public were attacked and a mass brawl broke out involving more than 30 people in a spate of violence last Friday.

Officers were called to reports of “youths armed with guns” in Enfield Town and an officer was also attacked while dealing with a separate altercation, the area’s policing team said.

In one case, a woman was assaulted as she intervened when a large group attempted to shoplift.

A dispersal order is in place covering Enfield town center and nearby streets, including Cecil Road, Church Street and part of London Road, to try to prevent further incidents from happening in the area.

It comes after a 15-year-old boy was left fighting for his life after he was stabbed in the chest nearby, close to the entrance to Bush Hill Park, in January.

A woman was also arrested on suspicion of murder after a 66-year-old man was found dead in a shared flat area in Lockhart Road earlier this month.

Inspector James Wright, of the Edmonton Neighborhoods Team, told the Standard: “Last Friday we saw a number of incidents in the Enfield city center area which required a significant police presence.

“Such behavior is completely unacceptable and we know it causes significant concern for those who live and work in the area.

“As a result, we have put in place a section 35 order which allows us to disperse any groups causing anti-social behavior in the area, helping to prevent crime and the fear of crime.

“We will also have extra police patrols in the area at key times and we have spoken directly to local businesses to listen to their concerns and offer advice and support.”
