Weeding Hack Kills ‘Same Day Yard Weeds’ Without Using Vinegar or Toxic Chemicals

Weeds are gardeners’ nemesis, they thrive in almost any condition and have had a field day in the UK recently thanks to the perfect mix of sun and rain. Gardeners have noticed an increase in these unwanted plants, but instead of reaching for white vinegar, salt or harsh chemicals to combat weeds sprouting through cracks in the yard, one green-fingered enthusiast sought advice on a more natural method.

Rachel Roberts took to the Gardening UK Facebook group to ask: “For those of you who use boiling water to kill weeds in your patio, how often and for how long do you do it to see the difference?”

Fellow members quickly responded with their experiences, suggesting that boiling water can indeed give quick results. Helen Brooks shared her idea, saying: “I’ve found it depends on the weed – most of the weeds in my yard have reacted quite quickly. I use boiling water in my driveway,” reports the Express.

Rachelle Breakspear told her success story: “She poured hot water on the weeds and the next day they were burnt, then I pulled them out and I haven’t seen any since.” Sandra Lovett offered her routine: “As soon as you notice the weeds put boiling water on it. I go every week with the kettle, I go weed-free”.

Annie Searle also chimed in: “I check mine once a week. Every time I redo the weeds seem to be weaker and take longer to come back.” John Gardner advised, “When you see green shoots. Do a weekly “patrol” during the growing season. They will die the same day and spoil to nothing in a few more days if you use this. It is an amazing method of water.”

Jazz Bah replied: “I saw a noticeable difference the other day. I did mine about a month ago and haven’t done it since. I’m dog friendly and not against weed per se, just I’m not on my way.”

However, caution is advised as boiling water, while effective against weeds, can also harm valuable plants if misused. It is suggested that you use a kettle with a spout and a heat resistant handle when using this weed killing technique.
