Cyclist spotted ‘pootling’ along M6 near 60mph traffic

This is the shocking moment a cyclist pedals without a care in the world on the M6 ​​hard shoulder. The man was spotted wandering around as a line of traffic, including HGVS, vans and cars slammed on their brakes to avoid hitting him.

The cyclist, wearing dark clothing, was near junction 10 of the Walsall Motorway at around 7.30pm on Wednesday (May 8). The 60mph speed limit flashed on the overhead signs.




The alarming footage was captured on driving instructor Richard Bates’ dash cam as he drove home to Wolverhampton. He said: “I moved into the hard shoulder because it had opened up as an active lane.

“Then the traffic started to slow down and I saw this cyclist pushing her into the gutter. My main concern was not to get too close to him.

“There was a three-car truck in front of him and I heard the horn. I got off at junction 10 and called the police with my hands free from the ramp.


“They were able to locate him using the cameras and said they would send someone over to him.”

Mr Bates runs Inclusive Driving which is a specialist driving instructor for people with physical disabilities and learning disabilities.
