The sandwich recall map shows seven states affected by the health warning

Seven states are currently affected by a broad recall of the sandwiches due to fears that the products may be contaminated with a bacteria that can cause food poisoning.

A range of sandwiches produced by Classic Delight LLC have been subject to a voluntary recall by the company following the discovery Listeria monocytogenes during sample testing, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said on June 11. The affected items were distributed in Arkansas, California, Maryland, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas.

Lister is one of the most common causes of food poisoning in the US, and while it often causes uncomfortable but manageable symptoms for otherwise healthy adults, it can be especially dangerous for young children, the elderly, pregnant women and those with compromised immune systems. Symptoms may include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

The following products, preceded by their individual batch code, are part of the recall:

According to the FDA announcement, the recalled products were manufactured between May 11, 2023 and June 6, 2024. Newsweek reached out to Classic Delight LLC for comment by email Tuesday evening.

“The recall was initiated after environmental samples tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes“, the FDA statement explains. “Production of these products has been suspended while the FDA and the company continue to investigate the source of the problem.”

Despite detection of the causative organism Lister in a sample of products, there have been no reports of illness or adverse reactions reported to date. If you feel sick after consuming one of the affected products, the FDA recommends that you contact your healthcare provider for assistance.

There have been several FDA recalls related to Lister outbreak in the US in recent weeks. A number of potato cakes were recalled in May due to potential contamination, and five states were warned about Lister being present in some nut products.
