Lidl unveils Liam Gallagher commemorative plaque after ‘almost concert’ and Co-op Live chaos

Lidl hilariously unveiled a blue plaque at one of its branches, marking Liam Gallagher’s near-miss in-store performance.

The former Oasis frontman is set to perform at Manchester’s Co-op Live arena this weekend. However, questions have been raised about the shows due to a series of problems encountered at the venue last month.

Several stars, including Olivia Rodrigo and Peter Kay, had to abandon their shows due to air conditioning problems, while Take That pulled out citing “technical issues”. Liam, 51, in response to a fan’s question about what he would do if his concerts suffered the same fate, joked at the time: “Gig in Lidl”.

Paying attention to his joke, the German franchise responded with a reference to the Oasis song to properly invite him. “We will go with him,” they said.

Despite the problems at Co-op Live seemingly being resolved, Lidl chose to commemorate the moment by paying tribute to Liam at its store in nearby Newton Heath. Liam’s customers and fans can snap a quick selfie with the new blue plaque, which reads: ‘LIAM GALLAGHER, LEGEND ‘ALMOST PLAYED HERE’ JUNE 2024”.

Supporting local businesses, Manchester Taxi Tours have kindly added a stop at the famous venue on the city’s music tour, giving tourists the opportunity to marvel at the wall of wonders.

In a final act of banter, Lidl shared a glimpse of the plaque on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday morning, using another nostalgic Oasis line: “Some might say we’re shunned, but we never say never. Here’s the @liamgallagher Lidl gig. that *almost* happened”.
