Police made another arrest after the child’s remains were found in the garden of the Wigan home

Police have made a further arrest after the remains of a child were found in the garden of a house in Wigan.

The heartbreaking discovery was made at the house on Marsh Green on April 10 after police were called to the scene. Officers were called by a “partner agency” before the remains were found.




An investigation was launched and five people – aged between 20 and 70 – were arrested on suspicion of concealing a death; and illegal burial. They all remain on police bail while the extensive investigation continues.

In an update today (June 14), after more than two months, Greater Manchester Police revealed that a 71-year-old man has now been arrested in connection with the incident. He was arrested today on suspicion of obstructing a lawful burial, in connection with an ongoing investigation.

He remains in custody to be questioned by detectives. Police have described the investigation as “incredibly complex” and dedicated detectives are continuing to work on the case.

The Manchester Evening News previously revealed how the baby’s family was known to social services. A Home Office post-mortem has now taken place but tests are still being carried out.

No other details about the baby, including the child’s sex, were released today. Detective Chief Inspector John Davies, who is leading the investigation, said: “This latest arrest comes on the back of extensive detective work which has been ongoing since April 10.
