Manchester City have given a release clause advantage in their pursuit of Chelsea transfer target Michael Olise

Premier League champions Manchester City have been handed a potentially crucial advantage in their pursuit of Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise.

Reports earlier this week detailed a growing interest from elsewhere in the Premier League in the French forward, with Chelsea and Newcastle United both making contact with Crystal Palace over a potential signing for the player.

Vincent Kompany’s recruitment drive at Bayern Munich has also centered somewhat around Michael Olise, with the Bundesliga side also making contact with Selhurst Park chiefs over the player.

Perhaps more attractive to potential suitors are the details of Olise’s release clause in his contract, which could represent great value for many clubs and is also unlikely to create a stumbling block for some of the most dominant clubs in Europe.

However, such a clause is now likely to fall in favor of Manchester City and Bayern Munich in particular this summer, unless the clubs want to spend more than the fee stated in his contract with Crystal Palace.

That’s according to The Telegraph’s Matt Law, who reveals that Michael Olise has a £60m release clause in his existing contract with Crystal Palace, renewed in light of interest from Chelsea in the previous summer transfer window .

However, the report cites sources who claim that such a clause in the player’s contract is not straightforward and could only be triggered by a club participating in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Manchester United are another club known to be interested in Michael Olise’s services this summer, however Erik ten Hag’s side have also missed out on European football’s top club competition by finishing eight places in the league last season.

City have already secured new attacking talent for the new season, with Brazil international Savio understood to be joining the club in the coming weeks after a stellar campaign on loan at Girona from ESTAC Troyes.

Although it is currently unknown whether Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff will deem the 20-year-old worthy of a place in their first-team squad, and could yet push the player towards another move of loan in La Liga. .
