Interstate 97 is reopening south of Peachland after an earlier crash

(UPDATE: May 9 @ 6:05 PM) – The incident on Highway 97 is now cleared.

DriveBC said the freeway reopened at Brent Road shortly before 6 p.m.

The RCMP has not yet provided an update on the accident, but NowMedia staff will provide an update once these details are released.


(UPDATE: May 9 @ 5:25 PM) – DriveBC says Highway 97 south of Peachland is scheduled to reopen around 6 p.m.

The highway was closed in both directions Thursday afternoon due to a “serious accident.”

DriveBC provided the latest update shortly before 5:15 p.m.

However, an assessment is still ongoing and no update has been provided from the RCMP.


(UPDATE: 9 May at 15:00) – Interstate 97 remains closed in both directions just south of Peachland.

Emergency crews remain at the scene of what the RCMP called a “serious” crash earlier this afternoon.

While DriveBC says there is “no word yet” on when the highway will reopen, a detour via Forest Service Road 201 has been made available.


(Original story: May 9 at 1:45 p.m.) – A crash has shut down Highway 97 near Peachland.

According to DriveBC, the highway is closed in both directions at Brent Road, just south of the community.

West Kelowna says it has officers at the scene of a “serious motor vehicle collision.”

No detour is available and it is uncertain when the highway will reopen.

“Officers will reopen the highway as soon as the scene is fully processed,” said Cpl. Michael Gauthier.
