Liverpool respond to Virgil van Dijk transfer rumors after ‘record’ bid.

Liverpool have not been approached by Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr over a potential move for captain Virgil van Dijk, despite reports on Thursday night suggesting the Saudi Pro League club have opened talks over a lucrative move to the Middle East.

The fast-growing league is keen to strengthen this summer, with top European talent on the radar. It follows a significant spending spree last year, backed by the Saudi government’s Public Investment Fund.

However, Liverpool have not received any interest from Al-Nassr in Van Dijk and anticipate that the Netherlands international will remain at the club next season, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Van Dijk has strongly suggested his immediate future rests with the Reds, particularly after fellow Dutchman Arne Slot was announced as the successor to outgoing manager Jurgen Klopp. Van Dijk, along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah, are out of contract at the end of next season and Liverpool are keen to speed up negotiations with the trio to extend their spell at Anfield.

Van Dijk said after the final game of the season: “I’m very excited (for the future), especially next season,” and recently told Sky Sports when asked if the transition to new manager Arne Slot would be smooth: “I hope so.

“Obviously I have full confidence in the club and all future decisions. It’s also exciting. Change is always a little bit into the unknown, but I have full confidence and I’m already looking forward to the new season.”

The Saudi Pro League is expected to pursue a number of top players from European clubs this summer, with Salah and Alisson Becker on their radar for some time. However, Liverpool have no intention of letting Salah leave in this transfer window and it is understood that Alisson currently has no interest in moving to the Middle East.
