‘Hottest name’ – CL side ‘intensify interest’ in Sheffield United player, ‘competition intensifies’ for signature

Last month, Fotboll Direkt stated that Anel Ahmedhodžić was expected to leave Sheffield United in the summer window.

The centre-back joined the Blades from Malmö FF in 2022 and Atalanta had looked at him when he was at the Swedish club.

That’s according to Tutto Atalanta, who say the Serie A side have rekindled their interest in the Sheffield United player.

La Dea is “stepping up its interest” in the Bosnia and Herzegovina international as he is one of the “hottest names” on the target list of Atalanta sporting director Luca Percassi and sporting director Tony D’Amico.

It is claimed that the defender’s value has dropped to €15-18m following Sheffield United’s relegation and the Italian club are looking to complete the deal for around €10-12m.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s team is not the only club interested in the player. Lazio are named as one of Ahmedhodžić’s suitors and have not made a bid so far.

It is explained that with “competition intensifying”, Atalanta could decide to quickly step up their efforts to secure a deal for the Sheffield United player.

Atalanta secured a place in the Champions League after winning the Europa League last month. Ahmedhodžić can play in Europe’s elite club competition, should he join them.
