London Underground: The 5 London Boroughs Without Tube Stations | My news from London

The London Underground is undoubtedly a marvel of transport engineering – but there’s no denying that some areas of the city benefit far more from the tube network than others. It’s possible to cross half of London in less than 30 minutes on the tube, but frustratingly, this convenience isn’t spread evenly.

With the Elizabeth line opening in 2022, west and east London have become better connected than ever. Meanwhile, south Londoners sighed in frustration at being left out of all the fun again. Any south Londoner will bemoan the total lack of tube stations south of the river, with some neighborhoods having none at all.

MyLondon has compiled a list of the London boroughs with the most tube stations – the record being 32 – and also highlighted the six unfortunate boroughs that have none.

The 6 London Boroughs Without Tube Stations

Kingston upon Thames, Croydon, Bexley, Bromley and Sutton are the five unlucky boroughs that have never been fitted with a tube station. Lewisham once had two tube stations on the East London Line, but these are now part of the London Overground network, so now join the Tubeless ranks.

The main reason for the shocking lack of subway stations south of the river boils down to geography. While the land north of the river is largely clay-based, to the south it is largely made up of ‘Lambeth and Thanet Sand’, which has historically been much harder to tunnel through. However, these boroughs are not completely cut off, with services such as the London Overground, National Rail, trams and numerous bus routes available, including Sadiq Khan’s new Superloop.

London boroughs with the most tube stations

1. City of Westminster – 32
Westminster, right in the heart of London, boasts a multitude of tube stations, including big names such as Piccadilly Circus, Oxford Circus and Leicester Square, as well as lesser known ones such as Bayswater, Warwick Avenue and Royal Oak.

2. Brent – 21
Brent surprisingly has 21 tube stations, three of which are dedicated to Wembley Stadium and Arena.
