The Premier League winner explains why Jamie Vardy will continue to score for Leicester City

Jamie Vardy has the sharpness and clinical edge to keep scoring goals for Leicester City even as they return to the Premier League, his Premier League-winning team-mate Danny Simpson has said.

Vardy has signed a one-year deal at the King Power Stadium and is now preparing for his 13th season with the club. He will come into the new term on the back of an 18-goal campaign in the Championship in which he had one of the best strike rates in the division.

The last time City were in the Premier League, Vardy scored just three times in 37 games, and that can be a concern, especially with the striker now two years older and turning 38 during the season. However, Simpson is confident he still possesses the attributes to score at the highest level.

“Sentimentally, I’d like to see him have another good year with Leicester in the Premier League,” Simpson told SportsBoom.com. “Even if he comes off the bench for 20 minutes here or 30 minutes there, you know he’s going to need one chance. He scores, that’s what he does.

“All he needs is one chance, he’s been doing this for the last 10 years. He still has that pedigree and he still has that pace that you need in the Premier League.

“I know the Championship is at a different level but he still has that clarity and focus, he scored 18 goals last season – and he didn’t even start all the games. He still gets those nasty goals in the box.”
