People in Crosby are divided over whether a Labor government will be a force for good.

Straddling the parliamentary constituencies of Sefton Central and Bootle, the town of Crosby is one of the wealthiest areas of Merseyside.

With every seat in Merseyside potentially returning Labor victories on July 4, in the run-up to the general election we’re asking people across the city region for their views.

Today I took to the streets of Crosby asking locals: “Will life get better under a Labor government?”

The responses we received came from across the political spectrum. Unsurprisingly for a city spread across two Labour-held constituencies, many people shared with us their optimism for a potential Labor government.

Crosby’s Michelle Fisher was one of those who believed things would indeed improve if Labor won the July vote.

The 59-year-old said: “I think life will be a lot better under a Labor government, just like it was the last time they were. much better position than it is now.”

Nicholas Miles, also from Sefton town, shared Michelle’s optimism. The 46-year-old said: “I hope under Labor we will have a more fruitful country.”

Another Crosby local, Sue Douglas, was somewhat more apathetic than Nicholas and Michelle, despite remaining optimistic about the prospect of a Labor government.

Asked if life would be better under Labour, the 75-year-old said: “I sincerely hope so, but I’m not sure because I don’t have much sympathy with any party at the moment, but I think there’s more hope with a Labor government”.

Others, when asked, were far less sanguine about the prospect of a Labor government.

Andrew Thompson, 73, said: “You’re in Cloud Cuckoo Land if you think that’s the case, as always they’re the party making it worse.”

The Crosby resident continued: “They have a hidden agenda on taxes and I don’t believe a word they say to be honest.”

As Reform UK rises in the polls, it appears their reach has extended to Crosby.

James Kinghan, 59, told us: “No, I don’t think it will be better under a Labor government because Keir Starmer has no respect for the working class. I think Nigel Farage would be a better option to break the Labor stronghold of Crosby.”

In this election, there are also those who believe that the Labor Party has moved too far from its left-wing homeland.

Cliff Jones, 82, is part of this fraternity.

Local Crosby said: “The values ​​of the parties worry me, not just that I will have a bit more money in my pocket or that the Co-op will sell things at half price and I think the values ​​of the country. it needs some attention.”
