OU linebacker arrested, WR faces charges, more

Former four-star defensive back Makari Vickers was arrested Wednesday by the University of Oklahoma Police Department. Vickers was reportedly booked into the Cleveland County Jail, but no further details about the arrest or incident have emerged.

As a sophomore last season, Vickers played a total of 61 snaps, 48 โ€‹โ€‹of which came at cornerback. His season high of 20 snaps came in Week 3 against Tulsa and he was featured on defense against Oklahoma State in Week 10, playing 15 snaps.

Purdue transfer receiver Deion Burks will figure heavily in Oklahoma’s offense, potentially becoming the go-to target for sophomore quarterback Jackson Arnold. However, he is currently facing three misdemeanor charges from earlier this month.

Back on June 1, Burks was arrested around 2:40 a.m. after he was observed speeding, found to be under the influence of alcohol and carrying an open container of alcohol. He was booked into the Cleveland County Jail.

Although occurring within days of each other, the arrests of Vickers and Burks appear to be unrelated. However, there is a third alleged incident involving an OU football player at Sin City nightclub, the same club Burks was leaving when he was arrested. The player has not yet been named and no arrests have been made.

In more positive news, Brent Venables continues to dominate the recruiting trail. He’s locked in a Bedlam battle for a four-star defensive end, and now his Sooners are named a top-4 finalist for four-star offensive lineman Darius Afalava.

Afalava is considered the best player in the state of Utah, and Oklahoma was named with Michigan State, Washington and Utah.
