Leeds United take on Manchester City tonight in the FA Youth Cup final, with Rob Etherington hoping to create history with the current Elland Road talent.

Although promotion to the Premier League is still out of reach for Leeds’ senior side, attention today turns to the U18s, who are playing in the FA Youth Cup final for the first time since 1997.

Leeds won the competition that year and will be hoping for the same success here against a very strong Man City outfit away at the Etihad.

Alfie Cresswell has offered advice for Leeds’ bright future

In the U18 squad is centre-back Alfie Cresswell, the younger brother of Charlie, who has caught the eye at Thorp Arch of late.

After featuring in the U21s this season, the Daily Mail have published a report on the squad traveling for tonight’s final, including Cresswell, where he is backed to follow his father and older brother in playing for the senior side in the following:

“Younger brother of first-teamer Charlie and seemingly destined to follow him and their father Richard as an England Under 21 international.

“He previously played in midfield but swapped positions with Rhys Chadwick for an under-14 game and has remained at centre-back ever since. Performed on the ball, physically imposing and excellent in the air.”

Who will win the playoffs?

The 16-year-old scored during Leeds’ run to the final in their 4-0 away thrashing of Brighton, climbing high at the back post to score Leeds’ fourth of that game.

Promising talent is emerging for Leeds at Thorp Arch right now

Alfie Cresswell has broken into the U21s of late and that shows he is another with a bright future ahead of him.

With his older brother on the verge of first-team involvement this season too, it should be encouraging for him to have Charlie up top.

While Charlie’s future is up in the air at the moment, it would be great to see a Cresswell centre-back join the line.
