Manchester United to invest £50m in Carrington

According to the official statement from Manchester United’s Communications Department, United are to invest £50 million in their Carrington training complex to upgrade the facilities to the latest demands of modern football. All facilities will be renovated to make it a state-of-the-art facility, with work starting next week. The mind behind the design of Qatar’s iconic Lusail Stadium, which hosted the World Cup final, will lead the project. Manchester United fan Lord Norman Foster, led by Foster+Partners, will be responsible for renovating the facility, which has been hugely criticized by various former Reds, including Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Our aim is to modernize and revitalize the building as a catalyst for future football success, creating spaces that inspire a culture of collaboration, unity and belonging.”

Manchester United’s new minority owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has outlined his vision for upgrading Carrington’s training facilities.

“We want to create a world-class environment for our teams to win. When we carried out a thorough review of the Carrington training facilities and met with our men’s first team players, it was clear that standards had fallen below some of our peers. This project will ensure that Manchester United’s training ground is once again refurbished to the highest standard
standards.”

The renovation will take most of the 2024-25 season and will initially focus on the gymnasium, medical, nutrition and recovery facilities. However, adjustments will be made to the remaining Carrington facilities to ensure training can continue for all involved. This £50m investment follows the £10m already invested by Manchester United in the Women’s and Academy facilities.
