Where was “House of the Dragon” filmed? You can visit these locations

After a wait of almost two years, the second season of the movie game of thrones prequel House of the Dragon premieres on June 16 (and the series has already renewed for a third season!). That RECEIVED, the prequel features vast landscapes and dramatic sets that bring the fantasy world to life. Many of the otherworldly scenes from RECEIVED were filmed on location in Northern Ireland, SpainCroatia and Iceland. House of the Dragon-based on the 2018 novel by George RR Martin Fire and blood— transports viewers to spots in England, Wales, Spain and Portugal. Anglesey and Gwynedd in Wales

For season two, the production traveled to eight locations on the island Anglesey and the county of Gwynedd in North Wales, according to the Welsh Government website. Locals have seen the cast and crew filming next to the quarries they are a part of Eryri National Park (Snowdonia)., the largest national park in Wales. With an area of 823 square miles, the park encompasses mountains, lakes and sandy coastline. Visitors can climb popular peaks, go camping, enjoy water activities and more in the vast landscape.

Mount St. Michael in Cornwall, England

Mount St. Michael it was practically made for RECEIVED universe. Located in a bay off the Marazion coast in Cornwall, it has a 12th century castle which is currently home to the St. Aubyn. The family have a 999-year lease to live in the castle and run the visitor business under license from the National Trust, according to property website. In the House of the Dragonthe location serves as the Driftmark in Blackwater Bay – home to House Velaryon.

Kynance Cove in Cornwall, England

East of Mount St. Michael is Kynance Cove, where a Velaryon camp was built on the beach. The white sand beach of the bay contrasts with deep red and serpentine red green, making it a stunning setting for a relaxing day. There’s even an organic cafe selling Cornish cakes, fresh sandwiches, homemade cakes and more.

Another stop on Cornwall’s sandy coastline is Holywell Bay Beach. In the series, Daemon and Rhaenyra Targaryen are seen together on the beach. The location has also been used for other productions, including the James Bond film die another day.

Derbyshire, England

Several Derbyshire locations represent the hills and valleys of House of the Dragon. He is among them Cave Dalea dry limestone valley in the county’s Peak District, good for hiking. Eldon Hill can also be seen in the series. It has what appears to be a natural amphitheater due to limestone mining. Pasture is also used for rough grazing.

Caceres, Spain

RECEIVED fans should recognize the Spanish city of Cáceres like King’s Landing. For House of the Dragon, the location also takes on the role of the capital. Architecture admirers will enjoy the mix of Roman, Moorish, Gothic and Renaissance towers, walls, buildings and squares throughout the city, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Castillo de La Calahorra in Granada, Spain

Castillo de La Calahorra in Granada is another castle that must be visited in the show. Most of the filming there took place at night, according to the Granada newspaper Ideal. Explosions and eruptions were reportedly seen on location during filming in 2021, as was actor Matt Smith, who plays Daemon Targaryen.

Monsanto, Portugal

Once declared “the most Portuguese village in Portugal”, Monsanto is home to another castle in which it appears House of the Dragon. The medieval structure is surrounded by a stone fortress and strewn with giant boulders, just like the rest of the village.

Warner Bros. Studios of Leavesden in Hertfordshire, England

Although the show features various European destinations, filming also took place at Warner Bros. studios. of Leavesden in Hertfordshire, England. Just outside of London, the studios are known for Harry Potter movies and studio tours centered around them. In June 2021, the studios added three new soundstages with a surround LED camera that provides “a new level of creative scope,” according to the studios’ announcement. House of the Dragon it was the first production to use those stages.
