41-year-old man convicted of murdering cousin at west Birmingham home

A 41-year-old man has been found guilty of the shooting death of his Birmingham cousin.

A Jefferson County jury on Friday convicted Clinton Ruffin of manslaughter in the Dec. 22, 2022, killing of 37-year-old Orlando Ruffin.

Clinton Ruffin was initially charged with murder, but a jury convicted him of a lesser charge after a five-day trial that began Monday.

West Precinct officers responded to the home in the 2200 block of Beulah Avenue that Thursday after receiving a 911 call about a dispute. Minutes later, a second 911 call was made stating a man had been shot.

Officers arrived to find Orlando Ruffin suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:00 p.m

Clinton Ruffin was arrested at the scene.

Following the sentencing, Jefferson County Circuit Judge Kechia Davis revoked the defendant’s bond and ordered him to turn himself in to the county jail on Monday, June 17.

Clinton Ruffin’s sentencing is set for August 12.

Jefferson County Deputy District Attorneys Lauren Breland and Jaleel Washington prosecuted the case. Clinton Ruffin was represented by attorney Hiram Griffin.
