Council planners have given the green light to build a new beach volleyball court at Farnley Academy.

The 900 square meter pitch will be built on an existing sports pitch which the school says is unusable due to the steep bank on the site.

A report accompanying the application says the school would like to introduce beach volleyball into the curriculum and have the opportunity to work closely with Volleyball Englandthe national governing body for indoor, standing and beach volleyball.

The report added: “The proposed scheme aims to improve the sporting facilities available in the area and provide students with access to a specialist sport.”

The plans also include a two meter wide wooden decking along with the installation of a 3.4 high V-Mesh fence and a 1m high ball stop netting installed on top.

A council planning officer’s report approving the application said: “The proposed scheme aims to improve the sports facilities available in the area and provide students with access to a specialist sport.”
