Super League team news: Leeds Rhinos flyer returns and Leigh Leopards rise

The Super League was suspended for the Challenge Cup final but is back and the teams will officially move into the second half of the season after the completion of Round 14, but many teams will be without star players.

Despite an 11-day spell for all but Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves, there was no Super League game on Thursday night, meaning there are three tonight on Friday instead.

Both Challenge Cup final teams are in action, with Wigan traveling to face Castleford Tigers and Wire looking to bounce back against Salford Red Devils. Hull KR host Huddersfield Giants in the third and final game.

On Saturday, Leeds Rhinos travel to the MKM Stadium to face Hull FC in what is sure to be an exciting fixture, given that it is the club’s first since the departure of Rob Burrow. Meanwhile, Leigh take a record 1,500 fans to Perpignan to face the Catalans in the first leg.

London Broncos are back in the top flight and host St Helens on Sunday with the Red Vee hoping to mark the halfway point of the campaign at the top of the table, which they will be guaranteed to do with a win.

The squad news for Friday’s three Super League games was previously reported, with the headline news being that Jai Field will be ruled out after tearing his hamstring in the Challenge Cup final. He is replaced by Jack Farrimond as Castleford have much bigger problems.

Paul McShane and Joe Westerman both miss out, McShane who could be set for a long spell, however, new loanee Matty English could be right in the mix.

Hull KR are mainly unchanged, meaning Oliver Gildart and Joe Burgess remain out, but there is news that Jake Connor will not play, despite being named in the 21-man squad.

Salford are without Ryan Brierley but could start new signing Loghan Lewis, while Warrington will be without forwards Jordy Crowther and Lachlan Fitzgibbon with ankle and back injuries respectively.

Saturday’s fixtures also see the home side return former captain Carlos Tuimavave, but it is Leeds who are massively boosted with the return of winger David Fusitu’a and prop Tom Holroyd. Andy Ackers remains out, however, as he is given extra time to recover from a concussion.

Catalans Dragons see a host of welcome returns including Alrix Da Costa, Arthur Romano, Micky McIlorum and Paul Seguier, while Leigh are boosted by the return of Gareth O’Brien.

Matty Davis is also linking up with the team, while Adrian Lam has also provided an update with stars Robbie Mulhern, Kai O’Donnell and John Asiata not too far behind.

Sunday’s game between London and St Helens and the hosts are backed in the forwards, with Emmanuel Waine and Ethan Natoli both returning. As for the Saints, they make just one change with youngster Harry Robertson named in place of Leon Cowen.
